Adobe Audition is a full-featured audio recording and
editing software program. What I mean by full feature is that not only allows
you to record and edit audio also has a multi-track that allows you to mix
different audio tracks and add a virtual instrument midi etc.
As a DAW A
digital audio workstation or DAW is a term usually applied to software that allows you to record and mix multiple audio tracks together usually with MIDI and / or video tracks as well. When Cool Edit is developed as the name implies it is meant as an audio editor. which means that you open an audio file single mono or stereo, and make changes to that file. When you are done you end up with a file that is different from what you started with. It's basically the same thing as editing a Word document. If you open the file a.doc and make changes to the layout of the spelling grammar etc. You'll just edit the file and when you save a version of it will be different from the original.
Somewhere along the line though Syntrillium decided to add multi-track functionality, too. This works pretty well for basic things. They have a toggle button to allow you to switch between the track and the multi-screen editing. As they evolved version adds more and more for the multi-track program. But things just got complicated and kind of midi stuff was not that great. So when the Reaper by Cockos out around me jumped on it as my main DAW and stop using multi-track piece of Audition although I still use it for editing and mastering.
If you ask what the special of Cool Edit Pro As the name suggests again the answer is audio editing. So Audition is basically a multi-track editor with added functionality.
Now if you ask what is special emReaper / em answer is a big fat DAW. It is designed from the ground up to be multi-track recording program. Even better, the program is designed to be slim without all the bloat the code you get from competitors. Audition is going down to work emeditor / em in my studio.
In addition to editing the gain control I also want to add or remove silent areas. Sometimes, especially with the dialog you want to increase or decrease the time between phrases. It is fast and easy with Audition. I also mention the p-popping editing. For that I use the Favorites toolbar and create EQ curves that cut a bunch of low bass frequencies. All I have to do is select the audio portion of said P P-pop sound of clicking the control that I made on my Favorites toolbar and it's done and on to the next.
After all the time and sounds just how I want it I normalize the result simply means that the gain of the audio file all appointed by the amount needed for the loudest single to reach max volume. This ensures that the audio is as loud as it can without causing clipping and distortion.
